Climax Ceilidh Band was formed in 2003. We have had thousands of satisfied clients since then, playing at weddings, parties and corporate functions, as well as major folk festivals in the UK and Europe such as Sidmouth, Towersey, Chippenham, Rudolstadt. Our name derives from the fact that Richard was in the Climax Blues Band. That band was founded by Colin Cooper in 1968 - a famous formula 1 racing car of the time was the Cooper Climax. We only use the very best callers, who are guaranteed to help everyone have a great time dancing.

What to expect

Ceilidhs are great fun and suitable for everyone, no matter what age or dancing ability. You don't need a partner so everyone can be included. You get top musicians playing live, with a caller who will entice people to join in. Our caller adapts the dances to suit the dancers and the emphasis is on having a good time rather than doing it 'right' The music will be based on traditional folk music, so will sound familiar, but is often 'jazzed up' in a modern way in response to the dancing. The wilder the dancers get, the better the band will play! You don't need any prior experience. The dances are pretty easy and a caller will show you exactly what to do and help you as the dance goes on.

FAQ

Q: How long does setup take? A: We like to get into the venue around 1 hour before we have to start to set up the sound system, but it only takes about 15 minutes to set up. It takes about 30 minutes to break down the equipment afterwards.
Q: What are your space and power requirements? A: We just need one power socket and a space of about 5 metres by 2 metres for the band.
Q: Do you take requests? A: We can usually include well know ceilidh dances you request.

Q: How long does setup take?

A big thank you to you all for a fabulous ceilidh at our work do last week. Superb caller and fantastic tunes = a whole hall of very happy people. Communication with the band was great and they even helped out our work band who were a bit stuck with equipment setup. Thank you all, we hope this is the first of many!
